Protecting Your Home While You Are Away

As the weather gets warmer, vacations are becoming more frequent. The summer trips and excursions are exciting and fun! We want arriving back home to be a pleasant experience as well, rather than a stressful one.

ADT states that most home burglaries occur in the summer months rather than in the winter months. This puts your home at a higher risk when away on summer vacation. According to ADT, most intruders live within two miles of the victim. These intruders “choose a home because they live close enough to notice the vulnerabilities and patterns of the inhabitants.”  Because of this, it is important to keep your house from looking empty while you are away.

Upgraded Points has published a list of thirty ways to protect your home while you are away. Some key takeaways being; pause your mail deliveries (which you can do through USPS), have someone keep an eye on your empty home, leave your car in your driveway to make it look like someone is there, do not hide a key outside, set a timer for your electronics to keep your house looking lived in, and keep your vacation plans off of social media.

There are a variety of tactics that you can use when it comes to protecting your home. Do what is best for you and your house to make vacationing less stressful for the whole family.
